Jesus has compassion for the people he meets, and he sends his disciples to minister to those very people. With the power of Christ at work in them, Christ's disciples are sent to the neighbors near and far to proclaim the nearness of God's kingdom and to put Christ's compassion into action by curing the sick, providing for the needy, raising the dead, and standing against demonic powers at work in the world. The harvest is plentiful; the workers are few. There is work to do, and we are offered the job.
